Kate Middleton’s mom Carole Middleton made surprising interviews amid Kate and Meghan Markle’s rumored rift.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s family has always been silent over the years. Unlike Markle’s relatives, the Middletons never tried to make headlines until Carole’s recent interviews.

Richard Kay, a journalist for Daily Mail, finds Carole’s interviews with the Telegraph and Good Housekeeping to be "so intriguingly timed." Carole has been mum for 15 years and her recent interviews only fuel the alleged row between the Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex.

“Ever since her daughter Kate was first courted by Prince William 15 years ago, Carole Middleton has been the model of discretion,” Kay wrote. “Even when the couple were engaged, Carole confined her public comments to just five words.”

“So her decision suddenly to grant not just one, but two, softly-softly magazine interviews has left courtiers baffled and also a little uneasy,” Kay continued.

“Is this, they wonder, the start of some new public relations strategy, or it simply a sign of the business-savvy drive of the very practical Mrs Middleton?” the writer added.

The interviews were "outwardly" to mark the 30th anniversary of Middleton’s business Party Pieces. An old friend of the Middletons said that Carole would have never done them if there were objections.

“In all these years, she hasn't put a foot wrong, and while she doesn't rock the boat she would also have wanted to ensure there was approval,” the source said.

“It was very much a family decision,” another source told Kay. “The feeling was 'why not'? Thirty years is a fantastic anniversary and is something to celebrate.”

A family insider also added that the interviews were deliberately done to not coincide with anything royal going on because Middleton’s mom didn’t want to be accused of “distracting from anything”

Carole has been Middleton’s extra hand especially when it comes to her three children. But she has always been cautious to never steal the spotlight from her daughter.

Meanwhile, Markle invited her mom, Doria Ragland, in her first solo royal event. Interestingly, Ragland reportedly outshined her daughter. “I think that her look is classic and eye-catching. She 100 per cent stands out more than Meghan, but not in a bad way,” PR Rochelle White said.

Markle and Ragland were also warned about doing a royal double act. “But Meghan and she should tread carefully if they plan to continue this royal double act,” Amanda Platell wrote. “Although she's a frequent visitor to the Royal Box at Wimbledon, Carole Middleton has been the model of discretion where Kate's royal duties are concerned.”
