KEY POINTS

  • Ben Chilwell still an option but Chelsea wary of Leicester asking price
  • Chilwell is seen as a worthy investment for Blues or other clubs
  • Lampard could continue the evolution of Chilwell at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea F.C. continues its revamp and it appears Frank Lampard has no plans of slowing down. Already securing two big names in Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, there are many other names the Blues have yet to secure. One of them is Ben Chilwell who remains linked to a possible move to Stamford Bridge.

Lampard is trying to strengthen his left-back position though he already has a couple of names in the mix. These are Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmeri, good attacking threats but pale on the defensive side.

Chilwell could address that defensive shortcoming although prying him away from Leicester City will not come easy. For one, the Foxes are asking a stiff $105 million for the English left-back. The Blues do have options with players like Sergio Reguilon and Nicolas Tagliafico believed to be alternative targets. But through the past months, the 23-year-old footballer has been the most frequently mentioned player ideal for the Blues.

The preference for getting Chilwell is understandable. He is young and has accomplished so much thus far. At 23, he has already collected the right amount of Premier League experience that makes him an ideal player to have. Chilwell is one of the most-impressive full-backs in the league and his rise under the watch of Brendan Rodgers is notable, Football London reported.

Chilwell is among the top 30 players in the Premier League last season. He attempted crosses with 3.48 per 90 minutes and has a good 3.34 Expected Assists looking at his stats over at Wyscout. Given the progress he has made, the Foxes asking price is justified. So the next question here is will Chelsea spend that much to bring the English football player to Stamford Bridge?

It should be noted that Chelsea is not the only team interested in Chilwell. Manchester City and Manchester United have also been tied to the 23-year-old but the asking price is seen as the reason why nothing has gone down. Chelsea is believed to be reluctant as well though anything can still happen moving forward.

Chilwell still has a lot of areas where he can improve. That could happen while still with Leicester or if he moves to Stamford Bridge. For Lampard, it all boils down to whether he will invest and then take over the development of the English national. Seeing how Chelsea is spending lavishly, he is a player that is considered worth investing in by most.
