  • Arsenal simply had no answers for Lukaku and Chelsea as a whole

Chelsea’s best acquisition during this summer’s transfer window had a ton of things to say about his debut against Arsenal.

Thomas Tuchel’s side pulled off a two-goal victory over Arsenal this weekend, and Romelu Lukaku showed how important he is and will be to Chelsea’s journey to the top of the English Premier League table.

Right-back Reece James and Lukaku were crucial for the win as James assisted on a goal for the Belgian 15 minutes into the match, and James doubled the lead 20 minutes later.

Arsenal showed some signs of life and aggression in the second half but was unable to find the back of the net as the Gunners lost at home at Emirates Stadium.

For Lukaku, his second stint with Chelsea was a “dream come true” for him and he revealed earlier in the week that Tuchel can call upon him to start “if he wants to” against Arsenal.

He also made a promise to Chelsea fans that he will be worth every bit of the £97.5 million ($133.9 million) transfer fee that they paid for him.

Speaking after the match, Lukaku talked about his performance against Arsenal.

"Dominant, I’d say. Dominant. I try to improve every time. I try to improve every time. I have a long way to go. It was good to win, to start well. Now we have to keep working, keep building, keep getting stronger. The Premier League is a really competitive league but we are ready for the challenge and hopefully, we can improve on this."

Lukaku made his presence felt against Arsenal’s defensive line as both Rob Holding and Pablo Mari had no answers for Lukaku’s strength and level of play.

The Belgian national also talked about how things just seemed to click for them against Arsenal and that he is very much excited that he was able to contribute.

“We knew it was a big, big game for us,” said Lukaku.

“Everybody was watching us and we did well. As an individual I tried to help the team, I said I wanted to add something different to the team - hopefully I did. I want to continue to do that to help the team win, that’s the most important thing."

Chelsea next faces Liverpool for their second consecutive away game on Saturday, August 28.
