The NFL season is entering the final stretch with the conference championship games looming and this Sunday could truly witness a passing of the torch if the Kansas City Chiefs overcome the New England Patriots to make the Super Bowl for the first time since the AFL-NFL merger.

The game between the five-time Super Bowl champions and the Chiefs is being dubbed as the battle between the 2018 MVP favorite – Patrick Mahomes - and the greatest of all time (GOAT) – Tom Brady as both the quarterbacks are at two different ends of their respective careers.

Mahomes at 23 years old is just starting out; the second year starter for the Chiefs is just coming off a stellar campaign having become just the second quarterback in history to throw 5,000 passing yards and 50 touchdowns in a season. While Brady has achieved it all during his illustrious career; five Super Bowl titles, four Super Bowl MVP’s and three regular season MVP awards.

The Chiefs do not have a good post-season record and despite possessing one of the best offensive units in the NFL this season, they will be aware that beating the seasoned Patriots, who are playing in their eighth consecutive AFC championship game will be a mighty task.

And Mahomes is aware that Bill Belichick is one of the shrewdest coaches around. The five-time Super Bowl winning coach is known to target the opponent’s strongest weapon and try and neutralize it during a game, but the Chiefs quarterback is hoping that their depth in offense should be able to counter it Sunday night.

“You always have to prepare for each and every scenario, but I feel like with this offense – and you’ve seen it all year – somebody new can step up every single week,” Mahomes said during his media interaction on Thursday, as quoted on the team’s official site.

“We have a lot of options and we have a lot of guys who can go out there and make plays. Whoever is open, I’ll throw the ball to them no matter who it is and, hopefully, that’s the formula to have success and to get a win,” the quarterback, who has found 12 different players for touchdowns during the course of the season, added.

The 2018-19 MVP favorite is also hoping that the Chiefs can “feed off the energy” from the fans at Arrowhead Stadium on in their efforts to beat the Patriots on Sunday. He admitted fans play a key role when they play at home and revealed that it is not only during the game but also during warm ups.

“One-hundred percent. Whenever you can go out during pre-game warmups and feed off of energy because the fans are there packing the stadium that early, it truly is special,” Mahomes explained. “We feed off that the entire game – there’s not an empty seat in the stands – and I know there won’t be an empty seat in Arrowhead this week. I’m excited just to be in front of that crowd playing in the AFC Championship.”
