The holiday season is officially upon us. If you're looking to gift the women in your life something fun and original this Christmas, consider buying them a subscription box. Whether your recipient is a fan of makeup, animals, technology or food, we've got you covered!

Here are the best six subscription boxes for women for the 2015 holiday season:

1. Ipsy -- $10 per month

It’s natural to want to experiment with new kinds of makeup now and again but it’s a hobby that can quickly become an unwanted expense. For those who want to try out new makeup brands but don’t want to break the bank, Ipsy is the perfect solution. The service allows its users to take a quiz regarding their beauty regimen. From there, the service puts together a monthly shipment of samples (and sometimes full-sized products) -- complete with a free, trendy makeup bag -- and sends it to your door each month. If you’re unhappy with your picks, you can retake the quiz. Ipsy also offers its users the chance to review each month’s products and earn rewards, which can be exchanged for free items.

2. PopSugar Must Have -- $39.95 per month

PopSugar Must Have delivers the “must have” items of the month to your door. The service provides products valued at over $100, which range from beauty to food and fitness items. MySubscriptionBoxAddiction.com reports that November 2015’s box included a headband, Tarte Cosmetics Eye Shadow, a Bingo set, a candle and a jar of Pecan Honey Mustard, all of which was valued at $133.

The subscription service is also available to purchase in three month ($109.85) and six month increments ($214.70).

3. Nina Garcia Quarterly -- $100 per package

Style expert and Marie Claire magazine creative director Nina Garcia wants you to enjoy the finer things in life. Every three months she ships out her Quarterly subscription box, filled with trendy pieces she thinks her fans will enjoy. Each shipment, which comes with a letter from Nina, contains items that relate to beauty, fashion and home. Her last package contained a Chic Buds Clutchette, Baggu Duck Bag and several other items. The next package ships in January.

4. Birchbox -- $10 and up

Birchbox (which also has a similar subscription box tailored to men) sends five, personalized beauty samples each month. The service touts this is “the best way to find the products you’ll love.” Items include skincare, makeup, haircare and fragrance products. Birchbox advertises its customers will receives “cult favorites” as well as “new launches.” Each new subscriber gets a free gift -- a luxe Eyeko Black Magic Lash Curler ($18 value).

Birchbox costs $10 per month or $110 for a year. There is also a gift subscription option. Your recipient can get the Modern Essentials Box or a Customer Favorites Box. Both options cost $30 for a three months, $60 for six months and $110 for a year-long subscription.

5. Nature Box -- $6.97 and up

If the person you’re buying for this holiday season is a fan of snacks -- I mean, who isn’t? -- NatureBox is what you’re looking for. Each month the service sends three to five snacks (depending on your subscription) directly to your door. Subscribers are given the option to pick their snacks ahead of time or let their tasty treats be a surprise. If you’re unsatisfied with a snack you received, let NatureBox know and they’ll replace it in your next order.

While NatureBox no longer offers gift cards, there are several subscription box options available. You can choose to get three snacks per week, bi-monthly or once a month. This option costs $6.97 for the first box and $13.95 for each order after that. If you want five snacks per week, bi-monthly or once a month, the service is $9.97 for the first order and $19.95 for subsequent orders. Users are free to cancel or pause the service at anytime.
