Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart Update: Pair Publicly Address Breakup For First Time

Since news broke of the reported end to Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse's relationship, "Riverdale" fans have been speculating as to who initiated the split. According to a report from E! News, it was Sprouse who broke up with his co-star earlier this summer.

"Their relationship has always been up and down," an insider revealed, adding, "They split this time after an argument while on their break from filming. Cole decided to end the relationship."

The separation supposedly did not come as a surprise to people close to the couple, reports People. "Their friends didn’t really expect them to last in the long-run,” a source told the magazine.

Continuing, they said, "At the end of the day, their personalities are very different and their lifestyles often clashed. Things have felt super heavy in the relationship for a while, and it got to be too much. They’re both very professional though and trying to be as amicable and friendly as possible."

However, on Thursday, the pair publicly responded to the rumors for the first time in matching Instagram posts. Each actor posted the same picture with different captions. Sprouse's can be seen below, while Reinhart's reads, "BREAKING: A reliable source has confirmed that none of you know [expletive]."

Bughead fans will have to wait and see if there is any truth to the rumors. As for now, all we can do is go by the Instagram posts, which neither confirmed nor denied the breakup.
