  • Paradigm Sports Management filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against Manny Pacquiao, a report says
  • The firm allegedly wants to recoup a $3.3 million advance
  • Paradigm is also seeking an injunction to keep Pacquiao from fighting Errol Spence Jr. on Aug. 21 in Las Vegas

Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao is facing a lawsuit ahead of his fight against Errol Spence Jr. on Aug. 21, a report says.

Audie Attar, whose firm Paradigm Sports Management represents Conor McGregor, filed a multimillion-dollar suit Friday against the 42-year-old boxing champion in Orange County, California, civil court for alleged breach of contract, The Athletic reported, citing a copy of the lawsuit.

The lawsuit alleged that Pacquiao breached their contract when he set up his blockbuster clash with Spence. Attar claimed that he was in the process of setting up a fight between the eight-division boxing champion and Mikey Garcia when the Spence fight was scheduled.

Attar wants to recoup an alleged $3.3 million advance and is seeking an injunction to keep Pacquiao from fighting Spence, according to the report. It should be noted that Garcia has since cut ties with Paradigm Sports Management.

Pacquiao and Paradigm allegedly began working together in February 2020 to seal a four-fight deal with DAZN, the complaint stated. One of those fights would have been a showdown between Pacquiao and Garcia, but Attar alleged that Pacquiao's longtime advisor Sean Gibbons and others interfered with and compromised that deal.

Attar then planned to stage a McGregor vs. Pacquiao fight this year, according to the lawsuit. However, the landscape changed when The Notorious lost to Dustin Poirier at UFC 257. Both McGregor and Poirier are set to clash once again in the main event for UFC 264 on July 11.

The lawsuit further claimed that Pacquiao's fight with Spence was announced on the same day the firm had believed the boxer-senator would sign on for a fight with Garcia. As a result of the failed Pacquiao negotiations, Garcia, who was Paradigm's only other boxing client, terminated his management agreement with the firm, according to the complaint.

"Pacquiao’s breaches of the agreement therefore entitle Paradigm to monetary damages (and) costs associated with this proceeding, including but not limited to attorneys’ fees and … injunctive relief," Paradigm attorney Judd Burstein wrote in the suit.

Pacquiao's attorney Dale Kinsella said in a statement to The Athletic that the lawsuit was a "frivolous effort to interfere with Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming mega fight."

"It can and will fail for numerous reasons," the lawyer said. "Moreover, had Manny Pacquiao known that Paradigm Sports appears to have had no intention of fulfilling its contractual obligations, he never would have entered into any relationship with them."

"Should this matter actually proceed beyond Friday’s filing in a court of law, Mr. Pacquiao will vigorously defend this action, assert his own claims against Paradigm Sports, and seek to recover his attorney’s fees as well," the lawyer added.

Pacquiao reportedly plans to fight at least two more times this year before retiring, according to his longtime trainer Freddie Roach.
