The fiasco involving Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov failed to gain any ground yet again following reports that the Irishman was granted a continuance for his involvement in the celebrated UFC 229 melee. The hearing originally set for Monday was postponed, and it is still unknown when this will be rescheduled.

According to MMA Fighting, McGregor’s legal team requested for a continuance and such was granted by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC). The granting of a continuance for high-profile cases is hardly surprising, although it does hold a role in determining when “The Notorious” will be allowed to spring back to action in the UFC. McGregor is likely to be handed a suspension and a fine as well from the NAC.

Equally interesting is the hearing of Nurmagomedov which is set for Monday. This early, however, there is a growing belief that the Russian may also be a no-show at the meeting set in Las Vegas. Similar to McGregor, a continuance may also occur. If so, this places the 30-year-old mixed martial artist practically on the same vote.

Unfortunately, it also means that Nurmagomedov will still not get half of his $2 million purses, which is still withheld pending the completion of his case. Like McGregor, the Russian mixed martial artist is facing stiff sanctions for the melee that erupted following Nurmagomedov’s win over the Irishman.

To recall, Nurmagomedov climbed out of the cage and went after Dillon Danis, setting off a wild scene outside the cage. Worse and as this was going on, there was also an exchange that happened inside the Octagon involving McGregor and Khabib’s training partner, Abubakar Nurmagomedov.

The bad blood between McGregor and Nurmagomedov, something that started way back in UFC 223 or the celebrated bus attack, reached astronomical levels prior to the UFC 229 clash, the Bloody Elbow reported. This was all the more made worse with the insults and personal attacks instigated by McGregor, a ploy that has slowly been criticized by different factions.

ONE Championship, a mixed martial arts promotions company that recently signed big name and former UFC stars Eddie Alvarez and Demetrious Johnson, made it clear that they have limits.

ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong made this clear when he appeared on the MMA Show on ESPN with Ariel Herwani. He said that he has no plans of signing McGregor and that the Irishman is unlikely to hit it off well in Asia.

“You take DJ; he will never be the trash talker or the guy who disses people. He is always going to take the high road, a man of character, man of values. For him to find a home here in ONE Championship he will be valued greatly and be much happier,” he said.
