  • Cristiano Ronaldo is under fire for ski trip in Italy with his girlfriend
  • Rodriguez's post of the trip is now deleted after drawing flak on social media
  • Both are likely to draw a stiff fine for breaking COVID-19 protocols

Cristiano Ronaldo and his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez wanted to do something special on the latter’s birthday.

Rodriguez turned 27 last Jan. 27, so the couple appeared to choose to spend that by going on a two-day ski trip over in Courmayeur.

However, most know that the COVID-19 pandemic is still pretty much in the air and restrictions are still in place. Hence, the alleged trip from Turin to Courmayeur earlier this week has put both in a bad light.

Both are now under investigation. Valle d'Aosta police confirmed that a probe is now underway on Ronaldo’s trip to the Alpine town of Courmayeur, Sky Sports reported.

Rodriguez’s birthday getaway drew flak after videos of the couple popped up on social media. That included the Portuguese player and Rodriguez sitting on a snowmobile to celebrate her birthday.

The said post has already been taken down by the Spanish model.

Movement between orange zone regions in Italy, including Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta, is forbidden under the current government decree.

As of this writing, no formal charges have been filed against Ronaldo and his girlfriend. The worst-case scenario for the Juventus talisman is that he will be most-likely fined if it is proven that he went on the trip.

The only exception for travel is if an individual travels due to work or to a second home. Both could be fined 400 Euros (roughly $485) each.

Italy has been hit hard by the coronavirus. A look at the latest COVID-19 numbers for the region from Johns Hopkins University shows that there are 2,501,147 confirmed cases and 86,889 deaths as of this writing.

Ronaldo is no stranger when it comes to being embroiled in COVID-19 related issues. In October, he drew criticism for traveling to Portugal as his team was isolating due to a couple of virus cases.

This was when he ended up being positive as well, drawing criticism from Italian sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora.

The Italian is in his third season with Juventus following a move from Real Madrid. So far, Ronaldo has 15 goals in 15 Serie A appearances this season.

He has also scored 67 goals in 79 Serie A matches and a total of 85 in 110 matches for Juve.
