CD Projekt Red’s upcoming title “Cyberpunk 2077” has an installation size so big it might require PlayStation 4 owners to delete other games or get a new HDD altogether.

“Cyberpunk 2077” can now be preordered from the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store. Those who will preorder to title for the PS4 will be surprised to know that the game needs a whopping 80GB minimum free space on the console’s HDD to be installed. GamePressure noted that this is 13GB bigger than “Days Gone,” while IGN noted that this is more than twice the installation size of “The Witcher 3.”

Moreover, “Cyberpunk 2077” is expected to take full advantage of the Xbox One X’s capabilities to run the whole game in 4K. It’s unclear, however, as to how much space the Xbox One version will require. It’s also unknown as to how the game will take advantage of the PS4 Pro’s capabilities.

Why the huge space?

With such a huge installation size, players on the PS4 might be forced to buy a new HDD just for the game. Game Rant noted, however, that CD Projekt Red has about 10 months to optimize the game to make it as “storage-friendly” as possible, by minimizing some in-game assets, before the game’s actual release.

One probable reason why the game requires such a huge storage space lies in the fact that CD Projekt Red has designed the game so that it will give players a lot of things to do.

The game’s main missions will give players different paths to take. Night City’s skyscrapers, all of them tall, aren’t just there as decorations -- players will find a lot of things to do in them too. What’s more, Night City itself has many factions and districts, and since all of these are different from each other, they are all unlikely to reuse the same assets found in other locations.

Worth it

Nevertheless, “Cyberpunk 2077” looks to be what the developers promised it would be. Those who want to get the game can preorder it from the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store. It is available in various editions, including a Collector’s Edition that includes a statue of the game’s protagonist, V.
