There have been plenty of rumors regarding contract negotiations between the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott. The team used the franchise tag to prevent Prescott from hitting free agency, but the quarterback reportedly wants to sign a long-term deal that will make him the highest-paid player in league history.

The two sides have until July 15 to reach a multi-year contract. Otherwise, Prescott will earn $31.4 million in the 2020 NFL season before heading toward 2021 free agency.

Anything can happen over the next several weeks, but Prescott is expected to agree to a record-setting contract.

Russell Wilson is the NFL’s highest-paid player with an average yearly salary of $35 million. The latest betting odds suggest that Prescott will surpass that number.

Bovada gives Prescott -135 odds to make more than $35 million a year for his next contract. Dallas’ signal caller has -105 odds to fall short of Wilson’s salary.

A report that Prescott has turned down a five-year, $175 million offer from the Cowboys has been disputed. All reports suggest that the sticking point between Dallas and its star is the contract length.

The Cowboys reportedly want to ink Prescott to a five-year deal. The 26-year-old is reportedly looking for a four-year deal, which would allow him to potentially sign an even more lucrative deal if the salary cap significantly increases for the 2024 season.

According to Clarence Hill Jr. of The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas has offered Prescott a yearly salary between $34 and $35 million. The offer includes $110 million guaranteed.

Jared Goff signed a contract with the Los Angeles Rams last year with a record-setting $110 million in guaranteed money. Ben Roethlisberger is the NFL’s second highest-paid player at $34 million per season.

Goff and Aaron Rodgers are tied for third with $33.5 million average yearly salaries.

Prescott has a 40-24 record since Dallas drafted him in 2016. He finished second among all quarterbacks last year with 4,902 passing yards. The Cowboys had the NFL’s No.1 ranked offense.

The Cowboys have maintained that signing Prescott to a long-term contract is their No.1 priority. Since September, Dallas has given both Ezekiel Elliott and Amari Cooper record-setting contracts.
