KEY POINTS

  • Dak Prescott could be back in time for the Cowboys' game against the Lions
  • Cooper Rush's successful run with the Cowboys comes to an end following their loss to the Eagles
  • Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is confident Prescott will be back at center soon

There remains no official word on whether Dak Prescott is cleared to return for the Dallas Cowboys.

Hence, there is no clarity if the two-time Pro Bowl champion will be able to return to action in their next NFL game against the Detroit Lions.

No less than Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones was also apprehensive about the possibility of seeing the 2016 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year back in the fold when they face the Lions.

That may all depend on whether his thumb is well enough to allow Prescott to play.

Regardless, Prescott is expecting to play although that will still hinge on whether he will be able to get medical clearance ahead of their practice on Wednesday, October 19.

"I plan on going this week and trying to get the full week of practice," Prescott said to reporters following their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week Six.

But one person who believes that the fourth-round pick of the 2016 NFL Draft will be up and about soon is team owner Jerry Jones.

Speaking to "105.3 The Fan," Jones shared his belief that Prescott will be back at center this weekend.

"He's determined to. From my perspective, I think he's gonna get there," Jones said via Jon Machota of The Athletic. "We feel like physically [he's ready to return]. He's going to be given every opportunity this week to go play. He looks ready to go."

The Louisiana native has missed five games so far since injuring his thumb in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This forced the Cowboys to go with Cooper Rush, a move that has so far allowed them to win their next four NFL games before they were sent crashing back to reality by the Eagles.

As for Jones, he was also at the center of a heated exchange with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft according to sources.

This allegedly went down when NFL owners voted 31-1 on Tuesday, October 18 to permit their compensation committee to open negotiations on a new contract with commissioner Roger Goodell.

Unfortunately, Jones was the lone dissenter from the group and eventually jawed with Kraft.
