It's been no secret that the NFC East has been a big disappointment in 2018. Despite boasting the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles and after an offseason of solid additions for the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys, there is a decent chance that no team finishes the season above .500.

But the Cowboys did themselves a big favor on Thanksgiving, holding off the division-leading Washington Redskins, 31-23. The Cowboys now share the division lead with the Redskins, as both teams have a 6-5 record.

The Eagles are still in contention but have just a 4-5 record entering their home matchup against the Giants, who still have an outside shot of winning the division with a 3-7 record.

According to Las Vegas oddsmakers, the clear favorite to win the division is the Cowboys. Jason Garrett's squad has 10/11 odds. Despite owning a weaker record, the Eagles have better odds (5/2) than the Redskins (11/4), who in Week 11 lost starting quarterback Alex Smith for the season. The Giants are the longshots at 33/1.

There are no odds for the wild card, but a look at the NFC competition can provide some insight. Oddsmakers have the Cowboys and Carolina Panthers sharing the fifth-best odds to reach the Super Bowl at 20/1. The Eagles are right behind, sharing 25/1 odds with the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks.

Dallas made big gains in recent weeks. The Cowboys earned a road win over the Eagles, and followed it up with a road win over the Atlanta Falcons before holding off the Redskins. All three victories were within one score.

A reason for the boost might be the addition of Amari Cooper. The Cowboys acquired the former Oakland Raiders wide receiver before the trade deadline and the 24-year-old has responded with three touchdowns in four games. Cooper has averaged 87.25 yards a game since joining Dallas.
