KEY POINTS

  • Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb would be happy to have Odell Beckham Jr. on their squad
  • Two other Cowboys have been publicly advocating for Beckham to sign with them
  • Beckham is coming off a Super Bowl victory in which he tore his ACL

The Dallas Cowboys and free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. have been linked together for the past couple of weeks, and CeeDee Lamb has responded to how it will potentially affect his stats.

According to longtime Cowboys writer Clarence Hill Jr., Lamb is not at all threatened with the potential acquisition of Beckham bumping him down on the depth chart.

"MG (Michael Gallup) is No. 1 receiver also. We had three No. 1 receivers in my rookie year. Why not get back to that?" Lamb said as per Hill.

Lamb has been a crucial piece to the Cowboys' offense since being drafted 17th overall in the 2020 draft and has been putting up big games thus far into his three-year career.

In 40 total games, the Oklahoma product has amassed 2,593 receiving yards, 14 touchdowns, 170 rushing yards plus a touchdown.

Joining Lamb in leading the Cowboys' wideout attack is five-year NFL veteran Michael Gallup, whose ability to get down the field with ease thanks to his athleticism has helped out the Cowboys to a 6-2 record this season.

Currently, the Cowboys are ranked 28th in terms of passing yards after amassing putting up 1,611 thus far–a far cry from Super Bowl contenders like Josh Allen's Buffalo Bills (5th, 2,411), the Philadelphia Eagles (15th, 2,065) and the Kansas City Chiefs (2nd, 2,605).

The Cowboys have been heavily reliant on a balanced offensive game plan which has quarterback Dak Prescott running play-action calls most of the time–allowing Prescott to decide whether to pass or run as they have also amassed 1,052 yards on the ground.

Convincing Beckham to sign with them will further develop their passing game, which they will need to get more yards from if they are to stay in step with the league-leading Eagles who are still undefeated through eight games.

There is some worry among fans about Beckham still being able to put up big numbers since he has spent the entire offseason rehabbing from a torn ACL that he suffered during the Los Angeles Rams' Super Bowl LVI victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Though he is far gone from being the thousand-yard receiver that he was with the New York Giants, going to Dallas puts him in a prime position to offer some veteran leadership to the young core.

In 12 games for the Rams (eight regular-season appearances, four in the postseason), Beckham put up a total of 593 yards and seven touchdowns, still making him a viable receiver.

Lamb is not alone in his openness to have Beckham in Dallas as both linebacker Micah Parsons and star running back Ezekiel Elliott have publicly advocated for Beckham to join them.

The Cowboys would do well to add the former LSU star to their roster as they look to make a push for a Super Bowl run as oddsmakers have them at plus-1100 to win it all this year–the fourth-best in the league.
