“Dancing With the Stars” 2016 Spoilers
Season 22 partners Marla Maples and Tony Dovolani weren’t expecting to get the ballroom boot during Week 4 of “Dancing With the Stars.” ABC

Not everyone got the fairy tale outcome they'd hoped for during Week 4 of “Dancing With the Stars.” At the conclusion of Season 22’s Disney Night, one couple was asked to leave the dance floor. And unfortunately for Marla Maples and Tony Dovolani, they were the dancing duo to get the dreaded ballroom boot.

“I was stunned,” Tony confessed during an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America,” adding that he was speechless after co-host Tom Bergeron announced their elimination. The professional dancer revealed that after 21 seasons, this was the first elimination to catch him off guard. “I did not expect this at all because we had such a great journey. [Marla] was growing every week.”

During Week 4 of the competition, the ex-wife of U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump channeled her inner Ariel and grew a tail for a routine inspired by Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.” The twosome earned a 28 out of 40 for their elegant underwater waltz, with “Part of Your World” as their sound track, but even the fin-flipping routine wasn’t enough to keep them in the competition.

“I was so sad,” Marla said in response to her shocking elimination. “My heart’s broken.”

Marla went on to say that participating in “DWTS” was some of the “hardest work” she’s ever done. And her blood, sweat and tears definitely didn’t go unnoticed. Marla’s daughter Tiffany Trump, who was in the audience Monday night, told ABC News she was proud of her mother for taking on the “DWTS” challenge.

“She’s proud of her mama. You want to inspire your children,” Marla said. “I just hope we can keep inspiring.”
