  • Der FCB remains hopeful of keeping David Alaba
  • Alaba is expected to get his fair share of suitors after this season
  • Bayern's chairman prefers to keep Alaba if a deal can be worked out

David Alaba and Bayern Munich appeared to be headed for a parting of ways, with both sides failing to agree on an extension. Things got a bit rough when Bayern pulled out its contract offer for the 28-year-old player, but it appears things are now settling down.

One person who believes that something could be worked out is Bayern club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. He insists that there is still a chance that Alaba can remain at Allianz Arena, although this would have to go through an evaluation process.

"The door is still open a crack,” Rummenigge said to Sky Deutschland. “If David wants to stay at Bayern then we have to evaluate how we can find a reasonable solution for both sides."

Alaba had until Oct. 31 to decide on the contract offer of Bayern, but nothing came out of it. With no response from the side of Alaba, Der FCB ended up taking the deal off the table – probably assuming that it was not acceptable.

However, Alaba alleged that he was hurt by the move and was not given enough time to evaluate the deal on the table. In addition, he said he only found out that the deal was off through media. Much of this was covered in a previous report.

Despite the controversy surrounding his stay at Allianz Stadium, his teammates came to his defense. That included Jerome Boateng, who expressed his support for Alaba, Sky Sports reported.

Regardless of what has been transpiring between Bayern and the camp of Alaba, Rummenigge is still hoping that the Austrian footballer remains with the club.

“I think we all think the same thing here at the club: We all want David to stay. He's a wonderful person and a top player,” Rummenigge stated. “At some point we have to start planning for the new season. We have to know: Will David stay with FC Bayern or not? A decision is important to us at this point.”

It will be interesting to see if something positive comes out of their talks in the coming months. If Der FCB fails to come up with an acceptable compromise, the 28-year-old is not short of suitors.

Among the teams interested in getting him is Juventus, which allegedly held talks with Alaba’s side in October.
