KEY POINTS

  • Dax Harwood has had a big career turn since joining AEW
  • Harwood has made comments about Cody Rhodes that had fans buzzing of a return
  • Many former WWE stars made their way back to the company since Triple H took charge

Tag team pro wrestling star Dax Harwood found life outside of WWE since he and partner Cash Wheeler decided to join All Elite Wrestling (AEW) in May 2020, but it could only be a matter of time before they return to WWE.

Harwood recently appeared on the last episode of the Gentleman Villain podcast, now rebranded to FTR with Dax Harwood due to William Regal's departure, and had the message boards buzzing following his comments towards Cody Rhodes.

The other half of the FTR tag team explained that he had a bone to pick with Rhodes prior to the former's current AEW run because the latter was asked on an old podcast episode with Sam Roberts that The Young Bucks was a better duo than FTR since they did not need to practice those matches.

Harwood said that those statements ignited something in him since him and Wheeler do not really rehearse their matches.

Though they are good friends now, Harwood is setting his sights on Rhodes inside the squared circle.

"He (Cody Rhodes) and I are very good friends. We talk all the time now. I think that he is a visionary, I think he is too smart for his own good, and I hope to be able to work with him very, very soon because I mean, I think I could tear it up with him," Harwood casually mentioned.

While Harwood was just simply speaking his mind on why he wanted to face Rhodes, the "very, very soon" part of his statement was what stood out for most pro wrestling fans.

For the very few fans who missed out on the majority of pro wrestling this year, WWE welcomed Rhodes back into the fold with a bombastic entrance and performance at WrestleMania 38 where he was the surprise opponent of Seth Rollins.

It was an open secret by that point as the dirt sheets had already spoiled the surprise, but it did not prevent fans from going rabid as it still had that chance of it not being Rhodes until the reveal.

While Harwood is not as big of a name compared to Rhodes, his work with Wheeler outside of WWE has gained them the respect of the pro wrestling world – even become triple tag team champions by winning the AAA, Ring of Honor (ROH) and IWGP tag belts.

There have been a lot of WWE stars who decided to come back to the company after being released or leaving on their own to build their own star, better known to industry fans as the "Drew McIntyre method," including the likes of Karrion Kross, Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt.

FTR has done just that and it appears that working under Triple H's guiding hand as the chief content officer and head booker may certainly be in the cards after revealing to Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp that their contracts expire in April 2023.

With how unpredictable pro wrestling is in recent years, it would not be a surprise that Harwood's seemingly harmless comments become a hint of their return to WWE.
