In a hair-raising footage, two deadly snakes in Australia were spotted fighting each other for the right to mate with a female reptile.

The video, which was posted by the Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC), was taken at their Scotia Wildlife Sanctuary in the Murray-Darling Basin.

The video shows the two venomous mulga snakes coiling around each other and attempting to push each other's raised heads down.

"These mulga snakes were seen fighting for well over an hour at our Scotia Wildlife Sanctuary," AWC wrote while sharing the footage.

The video was shared on Twitter and Facebook, and has received more than 200,000 views since being posted.

"Mating season starts in early spring and the males start wrestling, attempting to push each other over to prove their dominance, for the right to mate with the females. Although mulga snakes are fairly common, it's not too often you see this behavior - this is only the second time I've seen it," AWC ecologist Tali Moyle

Several social media users reacted to the video. "What incredible footage!! Thanks for sharing," wrote one Facebook user, while another said: "My worst nightmare... the mighty mulga!"

According to the Australian Museum, Mugla snakes are widely found in the country, except for the extreme southern and general southeastern parts. These snakes usually feed on vertebrate prey, including frogs, reptiles, reptile eggs, bird eggs, birds and mammals.

In September, a video of two snakes fighting in the backyard of a woman's home in Queensland was shared on social media. The video showed two large pythons fighting it out while a third snake was seen nearby. It is believed the two snakes were wrestling over a female reptile.

In August, Stuart McKenzie from Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers shared a video showing two huge snakes fighting in the front yard of a home. The two 10-feet-long reptiles were "trying to push each other’s heads down." Mackenzie captured the reptiles with his hands and placed them in bags before releasing them in the wild.
