The Democratic National Committee has deployed mobile billboards criticizing President Trump near key sites involved in the Republican National Convention in Washington, D.C. The billboards are outside the White House and the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, where many RNC speakers are giving their addresses.

The billboards are located near Trump’s hotel in the city and near the offices of the Republican National Committee. The text on the billboards read, “Donald Trump: unleashing chaos on American health care. Coronavirus is now the third leading cause of death in the U.S.” The back of another billboard reads, “Stop Trump’s war on healthcare.”

The Democrats have staged a week of counterprogramming to highlight the “chaos” of the Trump presidency.

Coronavirus cases have surged, with Trump frequently downplaying the virus in the early stages of the pandemic and promoting unproven treatments such as hydroxychloroquine. As of Wednesday at 9:55 p.m. ET, there are more than 5.8 million cases and 180,000 deaths from COVID-19 in the U.S., according to Johns Hopkins University.

Speakers at the Republican National Convention have praised Trump’s coronavirus response. "One leader took decisive action to save lives," a narrator said in a highly produced RNC video about Trump’s response to the pandemic.

Former members of Trump’s administration have criticized his approach to the pandemic.

"They've made a complete mess of it, and it's been a tragedy for Americans, those who have died and their families, the economic consequences," former National Security Adviser John Bolton told CNN on Wednesday, claiming “it's just been one mistake after another."
