House Judiciary Committee announces two articles of impeachment based on "misdemeanors and high crimes."

The first is based on the abuse of power, pursuing his personal interest at the risk of "undermining the integrity" of the coming presidential election.

The second article of impeachment pretains to "obstruction of Congress" while impeading efforts to maintain the security of the nation.

The committee will discuss these articles this week and prepare to present it for a vote before the House of Representatives.

Rep. Adam Schiff says President Trump's actions leave the committee "no choice" but to pursue impeachment over his misconduct and "abusing his office" through two acts: Withholding military funds to Ukraine and meeting with a power hostile to Ukraine, Russia.

"He is willing to sacrifice national security" for his own enrichment, Schiff said.

Addressing why the House can no longer wait to move forward with impeachment, Schiff cited a pattern of obstruction from the White House that may eventually spill over into the 2020 election, effectively tainting American democracy and allowing Trump to win re-election through questionable means.

President Trump has spent several weeks under the scruitiny of the House Intelligence Committee over allegations that he intended to withhold military assistance funds intended for Ukraine while pressuring the Ukrainian government to investigate Hunter Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, for corruption.

House Democrats have argued that Trump directed this investigation in order to dig up dirt on the president's potential 2020 White House race opponent.
