KEY POINTS

  • The Forerunner catalyst can be obtained by grinding Dares of Eternity
  • Players need to reach Rank 16 from Xur to get the Anomalous Access Card item
  • The catalyst can be obtained after scoring at least 225,000 points in a single Dares of Eternity run

"Destiny 2's" Forerunner exotic sidearm has immediately become a powerful and mildly terrifying weapon in the Crucible. With its ability to three-tap Guardians and pummel unshielded combatants in PvE, this gun is a force to be reckoned with. However, it can be made even scarier once players get access to its catalyst.

Like some other catalysts in "Destiny 2," the one for Forerunner can be obtained only if players are willing to put in the effort for it. This will take some time to complete, so players better be prepared to sink in a lot of hours if they want to get Forerunner’s catalyst for themselves. Here’s how to get it.

How to get Forerunner Catalyst

After getting the gun from the Magnum Opus quest from Xur in the Treasure Hoard, players will need to grind the Dares of Eternity activity until they reach Rank 16.

With an average of 180 reputation points per Normal difficulty Dares run, players will need to spend a lot of time grinding this activity. There are no shortcuts for this, unfortunately, so try to get in as many runs as possible without burning out.

After reaching Rank 16, players will then be able to obtain the Anomalous Access Card item from Xur’s inventory. This will give players the Magnum Opus II quest, which will reward the Forerunner catalyst.

Magnum Opus II will have players complete one more Dares of Eternity run. However, the catch is that players will need to score 225,000 points in a single run. Finishing a run on Legend difficulty will guarantee an easy completion, but obtaining such a high score is still possible on Normal difficulty if enough enemies are defeated or if a Lightning Round goes live at the end after the boss fight.

The next step will simply send players back to Banshee-44 at the Tower to pick up the catalyst. Take note that players will still need to feed it some kills before it can be used.

The entrance to the Grasp of Avarice dungeon might be the best place to unlock this catalyst. An infinite number of enemies will spawn at the cave entrance so long as the crystal inside isn’t fed. For those who don’t own the Anniversary Pack, the Shuro Chi encounter in the Last Wish raid is an excellent alternative.
