KEY POINTS

  • Gjallarhorn can be obtained from a quest included in the 30th Anniversary Pack
  • The rocket launcher competes with other top-tier heavy weapons like Sleeper Simulant and Whisper of the Worm
  • Gjallarhorn now grants Wolfpack Rounds to other non-exotic rocket launchers used by teammates

The long wait for the return of “Destiny 1’s” most iconic heavy weapon is finally over, as owners of the Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack can now get their hands on the exotic Gjallarhorn rocket launcher and wreak havoc on the enemies of humanity wherever they may be.

For the “Destiny” veterans, the updated Gjallarhorn will feel just as amazing as it did before. For those who just started the series with “Destiny 2,” this rocket launcher may sound like an overhyped legend that’s way too good to be true.

Fortunately, Gjallarhorn is still an amazing weapon in its latest iteration. It’s even better than it was before, thanks to one small change Bungie decided to implement to the gun. For players who are worried about how the gun might fare in the current meta, rest assured that Gjallarhorn is on its way to being a meta option, especially when rocket launcher mods come into play.

Gjallarhorn Rocket Launcher Overview

With the unique Wolfpack Rounds perk, Gjallarhorn can dish out tons of damage with a single rocket that splits into multiple tracking rockets that will chase everything in the vicinity. If there’s only one target near the blast radius, then all rockets will swerve toward that target.

What makes “Destiny 2’s” Gjallarhorn better is the new effect to its Pack Hunter perk. After firing a rocket, all other non-exotic rocket launchers held by teammates will fire Wolfpack Rounds as well, essentially turning all other rocket launchers into a mini-Gjallarhorn. This means that all players will be able to make use of Wolfpack Rounds despite not having Gjallarhorn equipped.

Damage-wise, Gjallarhorn can stand toe-to-toe with Sleeper Simulant in a straight-up damage test without Particle Deconstruction, as discovered by YouTuber Aztecross and his group. This alone makes the weapon viable in all game modes as it doesn’t require mods to deal competitive damage.

Gjallarhorn Catalyst

The catalyst will essentially double Gjallarhorn’s DPS by adding an extra rocket to the magazine. Additionally, enemies killed by the weapon will spawn additional tracking rockets, making Gjallarhorn useful in both single-target and add-clear situations.

There’s no reason not to get Gjallarhorn’s catalyst. The process itself is quite simple and the pay-off is more than worth it.

Overall, Gjallarhorn is expected to be a staple among heavy weapons for when fireteams need to get rid of the boss’ health bar. It’s unexpectedly versatile for a rocket launcher and if “The Witch Queen” includes a seasonal rocket launcher mod, then Gjallarhorn might just be a must-have once the expansion launches next year.
