Kim Kardashian and Kanye West hopped a plane to the Caribbean last week with an entourage of friends and family. The 36-year-old “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star and her husband were joined for an early celebration ahead of the rapper’s 40th birthday on June 8.

According to a Monday report from E! News, which is part of the same network that airs the family’s reality series, the Kardashian-Wests planned a four-day beachfront stay at Baker's Bay Golf and Ocean Club in the Bahamas. The couple — including 3-year-old daughter North and 1-year-old son Saint — was reportedly joined by West's friend Don Crowley, his wife and the couple’s son.

An unnamed source told the site that the family prioritized the ability to maintain a relatively low profile and were accompanied by security for the duration of their stay. The source added, “It was very important for them that it was a private weekend and they went out of their way to make that happen.”

Ultimately, the source told E! News, the trip was “a fun weekend for the family.” Everyone reportedly “hung out by the pool and the kids played on the beach making sand castles.”

An exclusive from E! News last week broke the news of the family's vacation, with a number of sources providing insider details about the family’s trip. In addition to revealing that they’d rented a “huge” luxury villa, one source told the site, “They have had cases of Casamigos flown in and are drinking by their private pool. The kids all have their own play area and they all look like they are having a great time.”

A second source revealed that the trip was all West’s idea, telling E! News, “Kanye wanted to plan this vacation for their family as it's been awhile since they have taken a vacation together as a whole. Kim really needed time to relax and wants to spend quality time with Kanye and he is going out of his way to make it special.”

Kardashian made headlines either shortly before or after the family’s departure with an emotional letter to her fans about gun safety in America. A gun violence victim herself following her Paris robbery in October, the reality star used her platform to advocate for better gun safety legislation while discussing her own experiences.

“I’m not against guns and I’m not against people owning guns,” Kardashian wrote on her app. “After what happened to me in Paris, I know how important it is to be safe and to have armed security. All of my security team is armed, but they also support stricter gun control laws and believe that we should restrict access to firearms for people with mental illness, anyone previously convicted of a misdemeanor, those who have been subject to a temporary restraining order and those at a higher risk of committing gun violence.”
