A stranger takes a liking to Candy in Season 1, episode 4 of “The Deuce.”

According to the synopsis for this week’s episode of the HBO series, Candy (Maggie Gyllenhaal) attracts unwanted attention and is intrigued by a legitimate suitor.

The trailer for the episode reveals that Candy meets her potential new boyfriend during a daytime visit at a local record bar. She unintentionally gets his attention after trying to play a harmonica inside the store.

“What do you want?” Candy asks the man who attempts to have a conversation with her.

“Your phone number, to start,” replies the guy.

Meanwhile, NYPD patrolman Alston (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.) sees through journalist Sandra (Natalie Paul). In the trailer, Sandra is arrested by a police officer who has mistaken her as one of the sex workers. But the moment Alston lays his eyes on her in the precinct, he seemingly knows right away that she isn’t one of the women working on the Deuce at night.

Elsewhere in the episode, Paul (Chris Coy) questions his place at the Hi-Hat and seems to have started looking for new opportunities. In the trailer, Paul asks a man who appears to be his partner to come with him to The Village to check out a new place.

Also in the episode, Darlene (Dominique Fishback) gets a gift from Abby (Margarita Levieva). The two met for the first time in Season 1, episode 3, where they had a little chat about Charles Dickens’ works. Since Abby noticed that Darlene was having fun reading Dickens’ “A Tale of Two Cities,” it’s likely that the Abby will give Darlene another novel by the same author to read.

As for what fans can expect from Vincent (James Franco) in the episode, the Hi-Hat manager gets another offer from Rudy (Michael Rispoli) and hires a Vietnam vet for protection following a police shakedown. Vincent’s twin brother Frankie (also played by Franco), meanwhile, hits a hot streak.

“The Deuce” Season 1, episode 4, titled “I See Money,” airs on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 9 p.m. EDT on HBO. Watch the trailer for the episode below:
