Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth have been married for years, but not everyone from Her Majesty’s family approved of their relationship.

On the online forum site Quora, one royal fan asked whether or not the late King George VI actually approved of the Duke of Edinburgh for his eldest daughter. A royal fan said that he actually did. But there’s someone of their family that only warmed up to Prince Philip years later.

“George VI was not the problem but his wife and mother. Neither of them thought the penniless Greek was ‘good enough’ for their little girl and certainly not for the future Queen… Between them, they made his life miserable as much as possible, at least until Queen Mary died… The Queen Mother seemed to lighten up on Philip after a few decades in the family,” Eileen Wood said.

The real estate assistant added that King George VI actually approved of Prince Philip for the monarch. Otherwise, the couple wouldn’t have been allowed to tie the knot.

“He wanted his daughter to be happy in her personal life because her future vocation as Queen would be difficult. Like any loving father, he wanted to be sure this was the man,” Wood said.

Prince Philip and the Queen have been married for seven decades. In recent months, they have decided to live in different homes because the dad of four has already retired. But even while they were still living together, it has been reported that they actually slept on different beds.

Several royal fans said that news about the Queen and Prince Philip not sleeping on the same bed shouldn’t be surprising because it’s actually quite normal for some couples. Some of the factors that may have triggered the decision are illnesses, hygiene, sleeping positions, and more.

And since the couple is already old, they might be sleeping on the same beds to avoid waking each other up in the middle of the night to pee.
