Apple (APPL) opened its Self Service Repair Store on Wednesday, allowing iPhone users the ability to repair their devices themselves by buying parts and tools directly from the tech giant.

Currently, the Self Service Repair Store is only open in the U.S., with plans to expand into Europe later in 2022, Apple said.

The online store has more than 200 parts and tools that can be ordered from Apple that are designed to allow iPhone owners the ability to repair their devices on their own.

Repairs will be able to be completed on the iPhone 12 and 13 models, as well as the iPhone SE (3rd generation), including these devices’ display, battery, and cameras.

Apple expects to offer manuals, parts, and tools for repairs on Mac computers with Apple silicon later this year, it said.

Customers looking to use Apple’s Self Service Repair service will need to first review the repair manual provided by Apple for the device they are looking to fix themselves at support.apple.com/self-service-repair. Following that review, users will be able to visit the Apple Self Service Repair Store and order all necessary parts and tools.

Parts and tools offered in the Self Service Repair Store are the same ones available to Apple’s network of authorized repair providers – also offered at the same price.

Tools offered by Apple include torque drivers, repair trays, and display and battery presses, which Apple said are custom designed to provide the “best repairs for Apple products.” Tools can also be rented in a kit in weeklong increments for $49 for those that do not want to purchase them for a single repair with no charge for shipping.

Apple also encourages recycling parts, giving some customers credits when they return a replaced part to be recycled.

While Apple has opened its Self Service Repair Store for all iPhone users, it does warn that “for the vast majority of customers who do not have experience repairing electronic devices, visiting a professional repair provider with certified technicians who use genuine Apple parts is the safest and most reliable way to get a repair.”

Apple has partnerships with more than 3,000 independent repair providers that use genuine Apple parts and tools, and have iPhone repair training. It also has a global network of more than 5,000 Apple authorized service providers. This puts eight out of 10 U.S. customers within 20 minutes of an authorized service provider, it said.

As of Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. ET, shares of Apple were trading at $159.52, up $2.72 or 1.74%.
