Draymond Green has responded to Kyrie Irving’s comments about the Boston Celtics being able to beat the reigning champions Golden State Warriors in a best of seven series.

The Celtics point guard was asked recently whether his team was capable of challenging the best NBA team in the country if they came up against them in the NBA Finals this upcoming campaign and Irving believes it is possible.

The Boston franchise have a packed roster with lots of young talent, and they proved their skills by almost making it to the NBA Finals in 2018 without their two All-Stars - Irving and Gordon Hayward. They lost in Game 7 to the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Celtics are one of the favorites to progress from the Eastern Conference this upcoming season, and they are most likely to come up against the Warriors, who are again favorites to win the title – their third straight.

Irving, however, believes the Celtics are building for the future and is certain they are on the verge of achieving their goal of winning the NBA title in the coming seasons.

“Can we beat Golden State in a seven-game series? Yes. Because of who we have, and what we’re establishing here, not just for this season, but for hopefully for the next few years, something that’s pretty special,” Irving said, as per Clutch Points.

Irving played against the Warriors in two NBA Finals in 2015 and 2016 during his stint with the Cavaliers. They even won the title in 2016 with the Celtics guard scoring the Finals winning jumper in the final seconds of Game 7.

The five-time All-Star believes he can use that experience to guide his young team against the Warriors, who despite already having a strong lineup have added DeMarcus Cousins to their roster.

Once the former New Orleans Pelicans center recovers from his injury, the reigning champions’ lineup will be made up of five All-Stars, which makes them clear favorites to lift yet another NBA title.

“I’ve played against Golden State in three straight Finals — two that I was able to participate in — and seeing them evolve, with the talent they have, and then adding DeMarcus Cousins, it’s like, ‘OK, the whole league is on notice,’” the Celtics guard added.

Green, who has won three titles with the Warriors since joining the franchise in 2012, responded to Irving’s comments about the Celtics being equipped to beat the NBA champions.

The power forward has backed the Celtics star’s claims and believes for Irving, being the leader in the team, it is the right message to give the rest of the players if they are to challenge for the ring come the end of the season.

“I think he should believe that. One thing about it, he didn’t say they will beat us. He said they can beat us. As a leader of that team, he should say that. I think he should say relay that message to his guys. You have to force your guys to believe if you’re going to achieve anything,” Green said.
