KEY POINTS

  • Colin Kaepernick has been spotted working out with ex-NFL player Chad Johnson
  • Kaepernick has yet to get a call-up from any NFL team for a potential contract
  • Fulfilling his dream return may get clearer after the 2022 NFL Draft

Colin Kaepernick has yet to get a call from any of the NFL teams, but this has not stopped the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback to continue working out with retired and active pro football players.

The latest on the 34-year-old appears to be training with former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson.

A photo showing the two along with another former player and quarterback Michael Vick was put up on Twitter by Johnson.

When he was still active, the 44-year-old player registered 11,059 receiving yards.

His last NFL game was in 2011 when he played for the New England Patriots.

After that, Johnson signed with the Miami Dolphins in June 2012. However, he was released two months later after he was arrested for head-butting a woman whom he married about a month before.

As for Kaepernick, the wait continues. He has not played an NFL game since 2016.

This was the same year when the Wisconsin native started his kneeling protests against police brutality and racial discrimination.

However, it appears Kaepernick remains adamant that he still has enough left in his gas tank to play in the NFL.

Add the fact that there are teams such as the Seattle Seahawks who are looking for a play-caller, Kaepernick may have a chance to fulfill his NFL comeback dream.

As mentioned in a previous post here on the International Business Times, Kaepernick had also worked out with a couple of Seahawks players Tyler Lockett and Aaron Fuller.

Oddsmakers weighed in on which NFL team would take a chance on Kaepernick.

The Seahawks were given a +650 chance by Adam Thompson of Bookies.com followed by the Baltimore Ravens (+750) and the Carolina Panthers (+800).

The best to expect for Kaepernick is being signed as a backup quarterback by an NFL team.

The fact that he has not played since 2016 raises questions to play at the NFL level.

A better picture of his fate may gain clarity after the 2022 NFL Draft, which is set to be held on April 28 in Las Vegas.
