A Texas man was arrested after he tried to run over his son with a truck after the boy refused to take a bath, reports said Tuesday.

According to the arrest warrant, a witness called Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies after he heard someone screaming and a vehicle accelerating at high speeds. When the witness went out to see what was happening, he saw 45-year-old Joseph Riley following a young boy in a truck. The boy was running, trying to avoid the truck. The boy then ran into a house and informed that his father was attempting to run over him.

The boy, whose identity and age weren’t revealed, reportedly ran away after his father threatened to hit him with a belt as the child refused several requests to take a bath. Riley, who was intoxicated, then got onto the truck and started chasing the boy after he ran out of the house, ABC-affiliated television station WEAR-TV reported.

When Riley was taken into custody he could barely stand. He refused to cooperate with the police and also lunged at deputies during his arrest.

He was charged with “domestic violence for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon” and “resisting arrest.” He was placed at Escambia County Jail where he was held without bond. He was scheduled to report in court on Feb.28, NBC Miami reported.

In a similar incident in October 2018, a Missouri man was arrested after he attempted to run over his girlfriend and son with his vehicle. Officials said Timothy H. Hancock, 35, pursued his girlfriend’s jeep with his truck in an attempt to hit it. When an officer pulled the truck over at the highway, the man jumped out of the vehicle and “advanced on the deputy, threatening him.” The officer then held Hancock at gunpoint and took him to custody. He was charged with child endangerment and assault, ABC 17 reported.

A month before that, a Georgia man was arrested after he tried to run over teens in a park with his car. Officials said the incident began with a fight between the accused, 18, and another 16-year-old boy. The 16-year-old along with a few other friends went to the park after the fight. The accused then began to drive at them and made several unsuccessful attempts to run over them. He was arrested and charged with “aggravated assault with a motor vehicle” and “reckless conduct," the Herald & Review reported.
