On Friday, the world observes an important holiday: Earth Day. Every April 22 since 1970, a spotlight is placed on environmental concerns and the importance of taking action to preserve the planet.

The event, which was founded by Wisconsin Sen. Gaylord Nelson, can be celebrated in a variety of ways, including community cleanups, planting trees, recycling, and more.

This year’s Earth Day theme is "Invest In Our Planet."

“We need to act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably). It’s going to take all of us. All in. Businesses, governments, and citizens — everyone accounted for, and everyone accountable. A partnership for the planet,” the official Earth Day website stated.

“And while there is still time to solve the climate crisis, time to choose BOTH a prosperous and sustainable future and time to restore nature and build a healthy planet for our children and their children, time is short.”
