A former ECW star finds himself in hot water over alleged comments about women’s wrestling made during a recent independent show.

James Fullington, better known as the wrestler The Sandman, reportedly made the comments to several women wrestlers during the WrestleCade Supershow on Saturday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. According to wrestler Jordynn Grace, The Sandman reportedly approached her and other women wrestlers and said it was "wrong" to have women be in the main event.

The show’s main event was scheduled to be a four-way match between Impact Wrestling stars Jordynn Grace, Rosemary, Tessa Blanchard, and Taya Valkyrie. Blanchard was forced to pull out of the match due to reported injury concerns and was replaced by fellow Impact wrestler Su Yung.

Grace took to Twitter during the show to address the alleged comments made by Sandman.

Videos appeared online shortly after of Blanchard, who cut a promo in the ring going after the former ECW star for his comments. Blanchard is scheduled to face current Impact Wrestling World Champion Sami Callihan for the title at Impact’s next pay-per-view in January, Hard to Kill.

The comments also drew the ire of notable wrestlers from around the world, including AEW World Champion Chris Jericho and IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay.

Sandman’s alleged comments come after what has been a memorable year for women’s wrestling. The most notable event was Wrestlemania 34, which was headlined by Ronda Rousey, Charlotte Flair, and Becky Lynch for the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships. Tessa Blanchard has also made waves with several high-profile inter-gender matches in Impact against stars including Sami Callihan and Brian Cage.
