  • Angry fans have targetted Man Utd officials recently for club's poor form
  • The situation became worse after Man Utd's latest back-to-back losses
  • The Old Trafford side is currently fifth on Premier League table

Manchester United on Tuesday said in a statement that they have come to know about an “unwanted” attack “outside the home of one of our employees.”

The Old Trafford side also added that they are sure the "football world will unite behind us" as the police have begun their investigation to identify the vandals.

Man Utd released the statement soon after a video went viral on social media that showed red flares being thrown over the gates of the club’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward's property. A message at the bottom of the video read, "Ed Woodward's gonna die."

"Anybody found guilty of a criminal offense, or found to be trespassing on this property, will be banned for life by the club. Fans expressing an opinion is one thing, criminal damage and intent to endanger life and property is another. There is simply no excuse for this,” the club said in a statement, according to BBC.

Woodward reportedly was not home when the attack took place.

The former Premier League winners are undergoing their worst phase in almost 30 years. They are struggling to enter top-four, which would allow them to play in the Champions League next season.

The Red Devils’ fans have been vocal about their opinion since the start of the season but the situation went from bad to worse recently when Man Utd lost two straight matches in the Premier League. They lost to arch-rivals Liverpool at Anfield before they ended up losing to the lesser superior club Burnley at home. In fact, it was Burnley’s first win over Man Utd in the Premier League since 1962.

Man Utd are currently placed fifth on the Premier League table, 33 points behind leaders Liverpool.
