  • The action adventure game may be released on Aug. 15, 2022
  • Information drought and delay allegedly due to COVID-19
  • The game was listed on Amazon Germany with Sony’s next-generation gaming console PS5

More than a year after the epic trailer launch of "Elden Ring", the fans of the open-world adventure game finally has something to cheer about. A leak following a recent update from gaming studio From Software may have spilled the gaming platform and release date of the much-awaited title, which features input by Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin.

Based on the new leak shared on Reddit and Imgur, “Elden Ring” is scheduled to release on Aug. 15, 2022. The game was listed on Amazon Germany with Sony’s next-generation gaming console PS5 as its only release platform. The listing has now been removed from the retailer’s site.

“Elden Ring” was unveiled at E3 2018 through a cinematic launch trailer. From Software had shared some details about the game following the debut, but it slowly became silent over the past months. Earlier rumors suggested that the game might make an appearance at The Game Awards 2020.

If the Amazon Germany listing is to go by, it looks like “Elden Ring” will be exclusively released on PS5. Interestingly, the release date is almost a couple of years from now, which could mean that the developers suffer from a massive delay. Several sites reported in September that the information drought was because of the game’s development delay.

The alleged delay was due to the effects of the current global health crisis caused by COVID-19. Also, game publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment is reportedly facing “some trademark issues” with “Elden Ring,” according to a report from Research Blaze. Last month, From Software shared some updates about the upcoming game.

The new information came directly from “Elden Ring” Game Director Hidetaka Miyazaki. In a statement read by Japan Media Arts Festival hosts Sayawaka and Tokita Takahashi, Hidetaka said that the forthcoming game would be the most profound creation the studio has ever made in terms of history and mythos.

“Elden Ring” would feature some sort of open-world feel, said the game director as he explained how players could use horses to move around the map. The upcoming action-fantasy title would also feature some of the themes that would underline George R.R. Martin’s works. Fans could expect that the game would put emphasis on themes like racism, politics and citizenship, among others.
