“Harry Potter” star Emma Watson might want to make her legal troubles vanish with a snap of the wand after she was accused of unlawfully employing a maid, The Independent reported Monday. British immigration officials are looking into claims the young actress's housekeeper may have been working illegally at her nearly $3.5 million London home.

According to the news site, Watson, 24, brought her American maid to the U.K. on a tourist visa, which bans foreign nationals from working in the country. But the housekeeper was apparently employed in London from September 2013 to February 2014.

British immigration officials wanted to know how the U.S. citizen was paying to stay in Britain. The maid reportedly worked for the actress at her New York apartment in early 2013. After some investigation, Border Agency officials received a complaint that the maid had been employed by Watson in the U.K. for three months.

When The Independent contacted a source at the Home Office they "wouldn't routinely comment on individual cases."

If officials determine Watson breached immigration guidelines, she could face up to a $17,000 (or £10,000) fine. The former child star hasn’t commented on the allegations against her, The Independent said.

The “Harry Potter” star lived in the U.S. for some time and recently graduated from Brown University in Rhode Island, where she received a degree in English literature.
