Last year, Facebook launched games on Messenger and to continue the excitement next year, the platform revealed upcoming titles and other new features for gamers.

Facebook rolled out its Instant Games platform last year to developers so they could create gaming activities for Messenger and the platform’s News Feed. Facebook initially had 20 games and now has over 70.

The platform is now adding more games to the list.

New Facebook Games Titles

The platform is launching new games worldwide in 2018, including some popular titles, like Angry Birds.

Facebook included the names and descriptions of some games that will be available on Messenger in the coming weeks and months:

  • Sonic Jump from SEGA, developed by SEGA HARDlight, will introduce a new, arcade style adventure to Messenger, featuring classic Sonic enemies, power-ups and traps as players challenge friends to see who can jump the farthest. Sonic Jump is rolling out now in select regions and will launch globally in the coming weeks.

  • Disney Tsum Tsum, published by LINE and launching in 2018, will bring beloved Disney characters to Messenger as players collect, connect and pop Tsum Tsum based on the popular Disney Tsum Tsum plushes.

  • GungHo Online Entertainment, Inc., makers of the hit game Puzzle & Dragons, will launch a new casual puzzle game for both existing Puzzle & Dragons fans and new players to enjoy.

Facebook Games: Live Streaming

On Thursday, the social media network launched a new live streaming feature for gamers via Facebook Live. To go live, users can tap on the camera icon on the upper right corner when playing a game. Then they can selects their audience and add a short description about the broadcast. To start the video users can press the “Start Live Video” button. Users can publish the clip on their page or profile when the live game is over, or can delete it.

Facebook Games: Video Chat Feature

Besides the live streaming feature, people will also be able to video chat while playing a game. Facebook said it will start testing the feature soon and will introduce the video chat tool early next year. It will allow users and friends to watch each other’s reaction as they play the game. The game “Words With Friends” by Zynga will be the first game to use the feature.

“We’re so glad that people are embracing the amazing experiences game developers are building for Instant Games,” Facebook said in its announcement. “To the people who continue to enjoy, share, compete and challenge themselves and their friends to games on Messenger, thanks for playing and game on.”
