The “Fast and Furious” squad is not slowing down as the “The Fate of the Furious” remains on the top chart of the box office last weekend.

Universal’s eighth installment of the franchise continues to dominate the box office in its second week. According to Box Office Mojo, the top three films remain the same for two consecutive weeks. On the second spot is Fox’s “The Boss Baby” and on the third spot is Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.”

“The Fate of the Furious” dropped 61% in its second week but still made an estimated $38.6 million. Its domestic cume has rised to $163.6 million. The movie continues its impressive run internationally by bringing $163.4 million from 65 territories. Its overseas total has now climbed up to $744.8 million while its global cume has ballooned to $908.4 million. The film is expected to cross $1 billion worldwide later this week as it makes a debut in Japan.

In another “Fast and Furious” news, Universal is reportedly considering a spinoff of the franchise starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham, Deadline reported. In the latest installment, Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Statham’s Ian Shaw put aside their differences to work with the squad, who were clueless about Dominic Toretto’s (Vin Diesel) betrayal.

The two characters had an action-packed scene in jail. Both were reluctant to work together when Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell) got them out of prison to help Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Roman (Tyrese Gibson), Tej (Ludacris) and Megan (Nathalie Emmanuel).

According to Variety, the “Fast and Furious” spinoff might feature Hobbs and Shaw’s tandem as they run after Charlize Theron’s character who was able to escape in the latest film. There is no start date yet for the spinoff, given the actors’ busy schedules. However, Johnson is booked in the franchise until 2018.
