New information about “Final Fantasy VII Remake” reveals that a chapter, supposedly focusing on fan-favorite character Tifa Lockhart, was cut from the game ahead of its release.

The recently-released “Final Fantasy VII Remake Ultimania,” a book that contains many details regarding the production of “Final Fantasy VII Remake,” revealed that the developers behind the much-loved re-imagining of the 1997 classic had to cut a special chapter dedicated to Tifa prior to the title’s release.

The book is in Japanese, but a translation provided by Twitter user Audrey Lamsam reveals many details about this chapter that would’ve been a great addition to the game.

“Final Fantasy VII Remake” level designer Yuri Hioki said Tifa was “supposed to take the lead for a special mission” that would take place after she gets separated from Cloud Strife at the Sector 5 reactor.

The special mission would’ve taken place around chapter 7 or 8 and would serve to provide a series of events that would connect the events in Sector 5 and her decision to infiltrate Don Corneo’s mansion. It was supposed to have three scenarios, all of them giving players a chance to play primarily as Tifa.

The book said this unreleased chapter was meant to “show the beginnings of the tragedy that would unfold with the Sector 7 plate,” which would be revealed later on in the game. It would have also featured some suspicious activity in the slums.

The chapter was designed to “show Tifa’s charm as she takes on the role of a heroine.” She was supposedly going to be briefed by fellow Avalanche member Jessie Rasberry regarding the plans the antagonists had for the Sector 7 plate. This information would’ve likely led to her decision to approach Don Corneo.

The scenario was also meant to reveal more details about the fan-favorite heroine, such as her thoughts about her friends, Cloud and her personality. It would’ve also included an explanation as to how Tifa got her hands on the dress she’d wear to Corneo’s place.

The unreleased chapter would’ve given more emphasis on other characters such as Barret, Marlene, Jessie, Marle, Biggs and Wedge. It also would’ve given players access to Avalanche’s hideout in Seventh Heaven’s basement and revealed more about the ragtag group’s ties with Wutai, according to the book.
