  • "Firebuds" is about a team of children first responders and their talking vehicles
  • Creator Craig Gerber said the upcoming series will teach kids about altruism and volunteerism
  • The show will include music to sing along to – much like Gerber’s earlier shows

Disney Junior is all set to premiere “Firebuds” in 2022, an animated show from Craig Gerber, the creator of the hit series “Sofia The First” and its spinoff, “Elena Of Avatar,” according to Hollywood Reporter.

“Firebuds” is a fantasy show with talking vehicles. It follows the story of a young boy and his talking firetruck and their friends who help them rescue people in their community.

The show includes music which viewers can sing along to – much like Gerber’s abovementioned shows.

“Whether rescuing a young car that's stuck in a tree, tracking down lost Dalmatian puppies or helping their neighbors stock up on emergency supplies during a blackout, the Firebuds highlight the importance of teamwork and helping your fellow citizens. Each episode is comprised of two 11 minute stories and features at least one new original song,” Disney Junior said in a press release.

“Firebuds” is Gerber’s first series created for Disney channels worldwide after he signed an overall development deal with his new production company, Electric Emu.

The overall development deal, which Gerber signed in 2018, allows the Emmy-winning writer-producer to create and produce animated and live-action series and movies for Disney Channel and Disney Junior platforms around the world.

In the press release, Gerber said the new show revolves around the spirit of community service and teaches kids about the concept of altruism.

“Just like our young heroes are trying to follow in their parents' 'tire treads,' we are hoping to inspire children to embrace volunteerism and helping others. It is personally a very meaningful show for me and the perfect way to launch this next chapter of my career with Disney,” he said.

Gerber has another upcoming project with Kris Wimberly who worked with him on “Elena Of Avalor” and is also the director of “Firebuds.” Disney Junior did not release the name of the new series but it said the new show will follow a time-traveling treasure hunter and will be jointly produced by Wimberly and Gerber.

The voice cast of “Firebuds” includes Declan Whaley from the show “Criminal Minds,” Terrence Little from “Danger Force,” Vivian Vencer from “Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure,” Lily Sanfelippo, from “Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends,” JeCobi Swain from “Home Economics” and Caleb Paddock from “Adult Beginners.”
