  • Wayne Rooney firmly believes that Cristiano Ronaldo is not joining Manchester City
  • New reports suggest that a deal may be done soon
  • Rooney says, "I just can't see it"

It is a hard time to be a Manchester United fan these days.

The club was seen as the early favorite for the English Premier League title after their signings of Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho, but that was countered by Chelsea opting to bring back Romelu Lukaku.

Then there is that piece of news where Cristiano Ronaldo is set to return to the English Premier League but with Manchester City.

As much as everyone would welcome his return to England with open arms, everyone would have expected him to return to the club that made him the star that he is in the first place.

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney could not help but share his thoughts on the matter.

“I think Cristiano has got a very good legacy at Manchester United and I know how proud he is as a player and a person," Rooney told TalkSPORT amid the rumors.

"I can’t see [him joining City], but it’s football so you never know. There have been a few that have done it but no one at Cristiano’s level. Obviously, Peter Schmeichel and Andy Cole, but I just can’t see that as an option for him really."

“Financially of course he doesn’t need to do it. I think it’s more likely that it’s PSG he goes to."

Rooney played and won three Premier League titles alongside Ronaldo in their early careers in the 2000s.

The Portuguese is unhappy with his status at Juventus and that a move away from Italy will best suit his interests.

After a transfer window that saw clubs reach deeper than ever into their pockets as the soccer world reels from the global pandemic, Manchester City is the only team that can afford Ronaldo right now.

As much as Manchester United fans want Ronaldo to come back home to Old Trafford, the man is disgruntled with his current situation.

If joining a perpetual rival just to leave Juventus, not even Ronaldo could turn it down.

The hope now at Old Trafford is that they win the league title and convince Ronaldo to join them the following summer.
