There’s no question that Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are the most iconic players in the current generation of tennis. When it comes to choosing to coach between the two if, given the chance, former top player Andy Murray chose Federer over Nadal.

In a question and answer segment on Instagram, Murray took the time to discuss some scenarios with his fans. When thrown the question which ATP star he would like to coach, the former world number one player selected Federer as his choice.

“Roger Federer, because I would learn a lot and it would be interesting to talk tennis with him, watch him train and he would win a lot,” Murray answered, as picked up by ATP’s official website.

This doesn’t mean that Murray disregards Nadal’s intensity as a player. As a matter of fact, he went on to praise the Spanish legend for the intensity he brings every time he suits up for a match. The three-time Grand Slam winner shared certain players he enjoys watching as they give it all out on the court.

“Always loved watching Rafael Nadal, great energy... great attitude... great player. Also, Gael Monfils, amazing what he can do and always makes me smile. Nick Kyrgios too when he’s focused,” Murray added.

The tennis scene has been dominated by three figures in the past few decades. With Federer leading the male players with a record of 20 Grand Slam titles, Nadal is within reach with 19 majors under his belt. The youngest among the big three, Novak Djokovic, is also not far behind as he currently has 17 prestigious championships.

But there was a point where tennis was blessed with another prominent player, as Murray completed the big four of the sport. This was during the time when the professional player from Scotland was healthy and in peak physical condition. Unfortunately, injuries took place and hindered the star’s singles career.

It will be interesting to monitor how tennis’ top stars will rank when everything is said and done. It would be an intriguing combination as well to see Murray as part of the training camp of his former rival Federer. The tennis community would just have to wait and examine if ever a situation like this comes to a reality in the near future.
