  • Bob Arum says Keith Thurman vs. Terence Crawford unlikely to happen
  • Thurman asking for big money against Crawford
  • Both Crawford and Thurman remain without an opponent in their planned fights later this year

Keith Thurman is still trying to land a big-money fight and the latest opponent he has in mind is Terence Crawford. If the 31-year-old wants a huge payout, he chose wisely. However, Top Rank boss Bob Arum knows how to juggle the numbers to make the clash happen. Based on his recent conversations with the Thurman camp, a fight of that caliber is far from happening.

Speaking to Boxingscene, Arum revealed how the camp of Thurman got in touch with him about a potential fight. But it appears the Top Rank CEO was stunned by the asking fee of "One Time," stating that their money demands were "crazy."

“Thurman’s people got in touch with me, but they’re out to lunch,” Arum said. “They have such crazy expectations that just don’t exist anymore. Their money demands are crazy. They said they were free agents, which I’m sure they are. But again, who’s gonna pay what they’re looking for?”

Arum did not get into detail on who actually communicated with him and how much the amount was. Regardless, the only thing sure right now is that this is one fight that will not happen soon.

Looking ahead, Thurman is set to return to the ring on Dec. 26 though he has yet to have an opponent. Ironically, Crawford also has plans to return to the ring but on Nov. 14. "Bud" will defend his WBO welterweight title but no opponent has been named. Tying the path of both boxers, it would have made sense to see them clash before 2020 ends.

However, the chances of that happening may have gone down the drain. Arum is now looking at other options and one name that has cropped up is Kell Brook. Talks are ongoing between both sides though nothing has been agreed upon. It is unlikely to reward either fighter handsomely in terms of finances since it may be held in a bubble without fans watching. The fight could take place either in the United States or the United Kingdom.

As for Thurman, little is known about who he could fight next. He has been pursuing a rematch against Manny Pacquiao, wanting to avenge the split-decision loss he suffered in 2019. Unfortunately, Team Pacquiao is not interested and little is likewise known on when the Filipino boxing icon plans fight again.
