  • Thurman is still hoping for Pacquiao rematch
  • Pacquiao is looking at other welterweights
  • Thurman may be better off targeting other opponents

Like most boxers who have fought Manny Pacquiao, Keith Thurman believes he deserves one. But the problem is that there was no rematch clause before he faced the Filipino boxer and there is nothing much to prove. Making it worse, Thurman admitted his shortcomings during that fight - things that he may no longer rectify.

“I just wanted to take control at the start of the bell, and I felt like I did everything I wanted to do until I decided to take my first step back,” said Thurman via Boxing News 24.

Until now, Thurman was never mentioned as someone who was keenly pursuing a rematch. A lot of that is probably because the Pacquiao camp is shrugging off any though of a Pacquiao vs. Thurman rematch. In a report from ABS-CBN.com, president of MP Promotions Sean Gibbons brushed off a potential second meeting between the two pugs. He pointed out how the results were on point and that there was no controversy in the final decision.

"There was no controversy outside," he said. "I don't blame Keith. Keith would like to have a rematch because it was a quality fight, but there was no controversy at the end of the day on who won that fight."

For now, it may be in Thurman's best interest to move on and target other fighters. A rematch with Pacquiao could linger in the air but that may never become a reality. He can think of it as much as he wants but the odds of it happening are not that good.

Thurman is now one of several boxers left with nothing much to do due to COVID-19. He has all the time to ponder on his future but admits that a Pacquiao rematch is something that has often crossed his mind.

“I also believe I deserve the rematch being an undefeated champion at the time. There wasn’t a (rematch clause), but that’s what I’m looking forward to. This gives me time to be prepared, to line up and be in sync with his future date,” Thurman said via Boxingscene.com.

The COVID-19 pandemic is unlikely to raise Thurman's chances of another shot at Pacquiao. He is looking at a heavy opponent that no one may be able to beat. And that opponent is named "father time."
