A former teacher in Waterloo was charged with having sexual contact with a teen, the New York State Police. The victim told police that the 29-year-old teacher, identified as Lindsey M. Halstead of East Bloomfield, sent him nude photos on SnapChat before meeting him up for sex.

Halstead, who worked as a gym teacher at Waterloo High School, faces two counts of sexual misconduct and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors. On May 6, police interviewed the teenager about the incident. The teen told officials that Halstead was his gym teacher during the 2017-18 school year.

According to records, Halstead was part of the Waterloo Central School District for about four years from September 2014 to February 2018. After leaving Waterloo, she worked as a long-term substitute teacher for Midlakes Schools until she was fired, local media reported.

The teacher reached out to the teen on SnapChat in September 2018 while she was working in the Midlakes Schools. After talking for a few weeks, Halstead started sending him nude photos, according to the teenager's statement to police filed with the court.

The two later made a plan to meet, the teen told the police. Halstead picked the boy up from the library in Waterloo and they parked behind the Hampton Inn in Seneca Falls where the two had sex in the teacher's vehicle, he told the police.

The teenager said that following that meeting, Halstead kept contacting him, but he blocked her on SnapChat and Instagram.

“At this point I was like this is weird, why is she still texting me,” he said.

A state police spokesman said Tuesday there may be more victims. Police released her mug shot in case other victims would recognize her.

“The investigation is continuing,” troopers said in a news release, “and additional charges are pending.”

Midlakes Schools is part of the Phelps-Clifton Springs Central School District in Ontario County. The school district released a statement saying, “The safety and security of our students is of utmost importance and all reports of any kind are treated seriously.”

“The school district is fully cooperating with the New York State Police and is unaware of any alleged misconduct involving Midlakes students or any alleged misconduct occurring on our campus," the release read.
