Formula 1 has released a provisional calendar for the 2020 season which features a record-breaking 22 races.

Formula 1 revealed the calendar on the eve of the current season’s Belgian Grand Prix, which is the first event after the summer break.

Vietnam is going to become the 34th country to have a Grand Prix in the 2020 season with a race in Hanoi on April. 5.

The second circuit will be Zandvoort track in the Netherlands to make the Dutch Grand Prix on May 3.

The 2020 season is going to be the 70th anniversary of the world championship with the calendar to be submitted for approval during the FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting scheduled on Oct. 4.

Pulling together the Formula 1 calendar has not an easy thing. This is especially when new races have joined the fray while others have negotiated their dates for one reason or another.

The Global Director of Promotes and Business Relations, Chloe Targett Adams admitted it was a challenge to be able to have 22 races across 22 territories. It has shown the growth of the sport’s fan base both at the race venues and other locations around the world.

The arrival of Vietnam was confirmed in 2018 as the nation becomes Formula 1’s fourth street race among Azerbaijan, Monaco, and Singapore.

As a Belgian born Dutchman, Max Verstappen will receive support from two homes this season, especially since the iconic Zandvoort is making a return after a hiatus of 35 years.

Adams claims the administration is confident both new venues will be ready to welcome Formula 1 in 2020. In Vietnam, they are allegedly constructing their circuit from scratch, and it is going to be the first major event to take place there.

Considering Zandvoort is returning to its former glory after a more than three-decade rest, there will be some upgrades to the circuit. It is to make sure the track is up to par with current industry standards.

In other news, the deal for Spain to retain its spot on the calendar and for the Circuit de Barcelona, Catalunya to host the 30th F1 race was announced this week.

Slotting Spain into the calendar was not an easy feat because Vietnam had been slotted for May and the Dutch circuit was set for the following month. May is when the Spanish Grand Prix usually occurs.

Azerbaijan’s street circuit also got shuffled back from April to summer, which is a first, since it was slotted in 2016. It was to the delight of promoters who believe the weather will be great.
