Funimation’s Anime Catalog Gets A New Home In Crunchyroll

Funimation’s anime titles are moving to Crunchyroll to create the largest anime streaming service. Apart from Funimation, Wakanim and VRV’s anime library are also merging with Crunchyroll.

Funimation and Crunchyroll announced Tuesday that existing and new Crunchyroll subscribers will have access to simulcast and library content previously exclusive to Wakanim and Funimation.

Moreover, all new anime series from the Spring 2022 season will exclusively stream on Crunchyroll. The FAQ section notes that 80% of Wakanim and Funimation’s most popular existing shows will be available on Crunchyroll by the end of March 2022.

Meanwhile, Funimation subscribers will not be able to see their watch history or queue in Crunchyroll yet. Crunchyroll stated that they are working on it.

Funimation, Wakanim and VRV subscribers who are yet to hop on to Crunchyroll are eligible to get 60 days of Crunchyroll Premium free.

Crunchyroll Premium offers three tiers of subscription -- the Fan option costs $7.99 per month, Mega Fan is priced at $9.99 per month and the Ultimate Fan costs $14.99 monthly.

Currently, Funimation subscribers are shelling $5.99 per month for the cheapest plan and $7.99 per month for the next tier. It remains unclear if Crunchyroll, with its massive anime library, will raise the prices in the future.

Meanwhile, fans and anime enthusiasts took to Twitter to share their thoughts about the unification of Crunchyroll and Funimation.

A user named Noble welcomed the idea of the consolidation but suggested the services need to reach a wider fanbase to prevent anime piracy.

Crunchyroll announced a list that will be regularly updated of anime coming from Funimation.
