An Amber Alert has been issued for a 1-year-old boy believed to have been abducted by a man in Person County, North Carolina. Police did not release the photos of the child and his abductor, who has been identified.

The Person County Sheriff's Office identified the toddler as Gabriel Newman, who has black hair and brown eyes. Investigators believe that Gabriel has been abducted by Gregory Newman. The two were last seen Thursday traveling on Highway 57 northbound, towards Danville, Virginia in a Black 2015 Volkswagen Passat North Carolina registration TDL8320, WXII 12 reported. The relationship between the toddler and his abductor remains unclear.

Authorities did not reveal how Gregory was able to abduct the child. An investigation is underway as police search for Gabriel and Gregory.

Officials say Gabriel was last seen wearing a black and white Nike outfit, and shorts with a black and white Nike logo.

Gregory is described as 6 feet tall, weighing 190 pounds, with brown eyes, and a scarf covering his black long dreadlocks. He has a tattoo of a dollar sign over the right eye, "love and hate" tattooed over the left and right hand, and a tattoo of the letter "G" on the right arm. He was last seen wearing a white shirt with flames on it and light-colored jeans with patches.

Police urged the public to come forward with any information about the toddler and the man, according to ABC 11. Those with any leads should call 911 or the Person County Sheriff's Office 336-597-0500, police said.
