Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A7 (2017) Samsung

Samsung has announced the Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A7 (2017) smartphones in India, shortly after having announced that its mobile payment system, Samsung Pay is also now available in the country. The new Galaxy A models will both support Samsung Pay among many other features.

Samsung Pay is is known for using both Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) and Near Field Communication (NFC), the two primary standards for mobile payment systems. Many other systems primarily use NFC. At this time Apple Pay and Android Pay are not available in India.

Several Indian banks have partnered with Samsung to offer Samsung Pay at their institutions. MST is the same technology used on credits cards to enable transactions, meaning any India establishment that accepts credits cards will also accept Samsung Pay. However, Samsung Pay may not be available in all areas in India.

The Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A7 (2017) are India’s first phones to accept Samsung Pay. The devices are expected to sell for INR 28,990 (about $435) and INR 33,490 ($502) at launch, making them largely cost effective, mid-range devices.

The smartphones also include some of Samsung’s prime features, including an IP68 water resistance rating, USB-C, a fingerprint scanner and fast charging.

Other specs on the Galaxy A5 (2017) include a 5.2-inch Full HD display, a 1.9GHz Octa Core chip, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage with MicroSD expansion up to 256GB, 16-megapixel rear and front cameras, a 3,000mAh battery, 4G LTE and Android Marshmallow

Other specs on the Galaxy A7 (2017) include a 5.7-inch Full HD display, a 1.9GHz Octa Core chip, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage with MicroSD expansion up to 256GB, 16-megapixel rear and front cameras, a 3,600mAh battery, 4G LTE and Android Marshmallow.
