The platform game "It Takes Two" published by Electronic Arts took home the Game of the Year award at the Game Awards 2021.

Developed by Hazelight Studios, the game also won the awards for Best Multiplayer Game and Best Family Game. Critics praised the title’s emotional story and creative multiplayer approach. According to Metacritic, the game garnered “generally favorable reviews” with over 1 million copies sold a month after the game was released. By October, 3 million copies were sold.

Among other notable nominations for the prestigious award were Nintendo’s "Metroid Dread" and Capcom’s "Resident Evil Village". "Metroid Dread" won the award for Best Action/Adventure game.

Fans of the "Sonic the Hedgehog" franchise have a lot to look forward to following the ceremony's conclusion, as the awaited "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" movie was announced, as well as a new “open-zone-inspired” game titled "Sonic Frontiers" set to release in late 2022.

The online multiplayer game "Among Us" is getting rebirthed in virtual reality, which was revealed in a short, yet ambitious trailer.

"The Lord of the Rings: Gollum", which was originally supposed to release in 2021, received a new trailer. The action-adventure game puts you in the shoes of Gollum as he seeks out the infamous ring. There is no official release date yet, but it seems it's on track to release on the Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X sometime in 2022.
