Game of Thrones Lannisters
The Lannister siblings have delivered some of the best “Game of Thrones” quotes in the show’s history. Helen Sloan/HBO

The final season of “Game of Thrones” is almost upon us, and sadly, when the show comes to an end, it will also mean the end of some of the greatest lines on television—especially when it comes to a specific trio of siblings that are featured on the hit HBO series.

While the Lannisters aren’t necessarily everyone’s favorite family, there’s no doubt that Cersei (Lena Headey), Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) have often been the ones to utter some of the best lines in the show’s history. From Tyrion’s amazing one-liners and jokes to Jaime’s moments of reflection and Cersei’s truly cutting remarks, the family that always pays their debts always also pays it forward with the things they say on screen.

Ahead of Season 8 and the end of their legacy, here’s a look back at some of the most memorable things they’ve had to say during the show’s first seven seasons:

Cersei:

When She Felt Spiteful:

  • “At first, just saying her name, even in private, felt like I was breathing life back into her. I thought if I didn’t talk about her, she’d just fade away for you. When I realized that wasn’t going to happen, I refused to ask out of spite. I didn’t want to give you the satisfaction of thinking I cared to ask. And eventually it became clear that my spite didn’t mean anything to you; as far as I could tell, you actually enjoyed it.”
  • “He’s attacked one of my brothers, and abducted the other! I should wear the armor, and you the gown.”

When She Defended Her Actions:

  • “The Targaryens wed brothers and sisters for three hundred years to keep bloodlines pure. Jaime and I are more than brother and sister, we shared a womb together, came into this world together—we belong together.”

When She Revealed Her Ruthlessness:

  • “When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.”
  • “He did what he needed to be done. You want to be the Hand of the King? You want to rule? This is what ruling is, lying on a bed of weeds, ripping them out by the root, one by one, before they strangle you in your sleep.”

When She Told Her Father How She Really Felt:

  • “Did it ever occur to you that I might be the one who deserves your confidence and your trust, not your sons? Not Jaime or Tyrion, but me? Years and years of lectures on family and legacy, same lecture, really, just with tiny, tedious variations. Did it ever occur to you that your daughter might be the only one listening to them, living by them? That she might have the most to contribute to your legacy that you love so much more than your actual children?”

When She Wasn’t Afraid To Make Threats:

  • “If you ever call me ‘sister’ again, I’ll have you strangled in your sleep.”

When She Got Sweet, Sweet Revenge:

  • “You’ve always been quiet. I said my face would be the last thing you saw before you died, do you remember?... You’re not going to die today. You’re not going to die for quite a while...Shame. Shame. Shame.”
  • “Your daughter will die here, in this cell, and you’ll be here watching when she does. You’ll be here the rest of your days. If you refuse to eat, we’ll force food down your throat. You will live to watch your daughter rot, to watch that beautiful face collapse to bone and dust, all the while contemplating the choices you’ve made. Make sure the guards change the torches every few hours. I don’t want her to miss a thing.”

Jaime:

When He Was Baiting His Enemy:

  • “Sturdy old thing. How many Kings’ a**es have polished it, I wonder? Um, what’s the line? The King s***s and the hand wipes.”

When He Admitted That Love Is Complicated:

  • “I don’t blame him. And I don’t blame you, either. We don’t get to choose who we love.”

When He Shared His Truth:

  • “Jaime...My name’s Jaime.”

When He Admitted That Mercy Doesn’t Exist:

  • “The Gods won’t mind. They’ve spilled more blood than the rest of us combined.”

When He Defended Cersei:

  • “To you, I’m sure. To others as well. But after we’ve won, and there’s no one left to oppose us, when people are living peacefully in the world she built, do you really think they’ll wring their hands over the way she built it?”

When He Finally Stood Up To His Sister:

  • “I don’t believe you.”

Tyrion:

When He Was Inspiring Others:

  • “Let me give you some advice, bastard: never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you.”
  • “Don’t fight for your king, and don’t fight for his kingdoms. Don’t fight for honor, don’t fight for glory, don’t fight for riches, because you won’t get any! This is your city Stannis means to sack, that’s your gate he’s ramming! If he gets in, it’ll be your houses he burns, your gold he steals, your women he’ll rape. Those are brave men knocking at our door. Let’s go kill them!”

When He Lectured Others For Mistakes:

  • “Disappeared? What, in a puff of smoke?? We had three Starks to trade. You chopped one’s head off, and let another escape. Father would be furious. Must be hard for you, to be the disappointing child.”
  • “We’ve had vicious kings and we’ve had idiot kings, but I don’t know if we’ve ever been cursed with a vicious idiot for a king.”

When He Wasn’t Afraid To Make A Threat:

  • “I will hurt you for this. A day will come when you think you are safe and happy, and your joy will turn to ashes in your mouth...and you will know the debt is paid.”
  • “Oh, I’m a monster? Perhaps you should speak to me more softly, then. Monsters are dangerous and just now, kings are dying like flies.”
  • “Tell your people what happened here. Tell them you live by the grace of her Majesty. When they come forward with notion of retribution, or ideas about returning the slave-cities to their former glory...remind them what happened, when Daenerys Stormborn and her dragons came to Mereen.”

When He Told The Future:

  • “No, but... Sansa’s not a killer. Not yet, anyway.”

When He Admitted His Strengths:

  • “That’s what I do. I drink, and I know things.”
