It has been over a month since “General Hospital” fans have been able to watch a new episode of the ABC soap opera featuring their favorite characters like Jason, Sam, Nelle, Michael, Willow, Carly, and Sonny.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the popular daytime series was forced to shut down production to protect the cast and crew. However, as portions of the U.S. began to reopen, the network reportedly planned to begin taping new episodes for fans.

According to Deadline, ABC initially aimed to resume production in mid-July after closing down the Los Angeles studio in March. The daytime soap aired its last new episode on May 21.

As the rumored production day approaches, it is unclear whether the network will be able to follow through with its production plans after Los Angeles’ reopening resulted in a rise of coronavirus cases.

Last week, Los Angeles Governor Gavin Newsom ordered several counties to shut down immediately following the increase in hospitalizations and positive COVID-19 tests.

“CA’s response to #COVID19 is based on science. That’s why we asked counties that are experiencing high transmission and positivity rates to close down bars & toggle back re-openings. We will continue to monitor counties across the state & take appropriate action when necessary,” he tweeted on June 30.

Unfortunately for “GH” fans, that means they may have to wait a few more months before they can watch a new episode.

“General Hospital” airs weekdays at 3 p.m. EDT on ABC.
